Samsung Galaxy S10e Review

For the past few years, Samsung has two flagship S series smartphones at the time of launch - a regular and a plus version. This year the company introduced the third variant named Galaxy S10e.

Table Of Content

According to US pricing, the Galaxy S10E has a direct meaning from the iPhone XR. In India, thanks to the local building of Samsung, we are able to bring it closer to the value of the dollar, while the iPhone XR comes at a steep premium.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Galaxy S10e is the smallest and lightest of the three Samsung S10 phones
  • It has fewer cameras and a lower-res display, but still performs well
  • Samsung Galaxy S10e price in India is Rs. 55,900

Rupee. At Rs 55,900, the Galaxy S10e Galaxy 55,900 is a good Rs. Standard Galaxy S10 is 10,000 cheaper than 7,61,749, and at this price there is not really any other 2019 Android flagship in India.

The Galaxy S10e is also getting rave reviews on the Internet, so it's finally time to look for us whether it really remains to publicity.

Samsung Galaxy S10e design

The Galaxy S10e is the smallest and lightest in the three new Galaxy S10 models at 150g. It is 0.1 mm thick compared to others, which is impossible to tell in practice, even with the other two. What we really love is the size of this phone.

It seems incredibly comfortable to wear and round edges do not friction on the skin. The aluminum and glass back slips slightly when used with one hand and this phone easily attracts fingerprints.

Even if it sounds strong, if you leave this phone, the aluminum frame will be permanently ready. For example, we were crouching to take some pictures of a flower at one point, and the phone slipped from our hands, shorter than the height of the waist and bumped on a tiled floor.

The glass remained intact, but the top of the frame left behind a permanent trail, leaving the blur of the effect.

The Galaxy S10e has a Bixby button similar to its siblings, which can be programmed to trigger other tasks too. You can set a double-press or single-press action to launch an app or trigger a bixby routine, but launching a Bixby Assistant is one of the other options.

Unlike ultrasonic fingerprint sensors in the more premium Galaxy S10 models, the Galaxy S10E has a standard capacitive that is integrated into your power button on the right. It is highly sensitive, and even a quick touch is enough to unlock the phone.

You can also enable gestures for easy access to the notification shade. When it works well, we feel that the placement of the power button is a little too high, and we found that it is a bit difficult to keep the phone normally.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e has a 5.8-inch Full-HD + Dynamic AMOLED display. The resolution is lower than the Galaxy S10 and the Galaxy S10 + (review), but you still get a pretty densely pixel count of 438ppi.

Thankfully, Samsung has not taken HDR 10+ certification for display, so you can still enjoy high-dynamic Range Colors in compatible videos. The default color profile can show the colors a bit saturated, but if you want, profile can switch to the natural 'color profile'.

One of the big design differences with the Galaxy S10e is the lack of curved display edges on the left and right side. Instead, the display is flat.

Another slight difference is that the Galaxy S10e has a bit rough beige on the sides and the top compared to the other two, although it did not really bother us.

One area where Samsung has cut some corners is the level of security for the glass scratch. In the Galaxy S10e, the front and rear gorilla glass is 5, while its older siblings have Gorilla Glass 6 in the front and Gorilla Glass 5 on the rear.

While Gorilla Glass 5 is still certified to face scratches and droplets, on the other two Galaxy S10 models the new version should offer better break resistance.

You also get a screen guard in advance, which gets annoyed when you feel rough on the edges when you swipe from either side of the display.

Behind the phone, we saw some more drawbacks compared to other Galaxy S10 models. The Galaxy S10e disables the telephoto camera, so you get only the main dual aperture, 12-megapixel sensor and 16-megapixel ultra-wide angle.

These are the same types of sensors found in other two models, however. One more thing that is missing is the heart-rate sensor, which is not a big loss in our books.

The Samsung Galaxy S10e is available in Prism Black and Prism White in India only. The bundled goods include an AKG-tuned headset, USB-OTG type-C to type-A-adapter, fast charger, data cable, sim ejection tool and warranty information.

What is interesting is that with this model you get a plastic case that looks much better than a transparent, hard plastic shell with the other two.

Samsung Galaxy S10e specifications and features

Even though this is the most affordable phone in Samsung's flagship lineup, but there is nothing less about its specification.

In India, the Galaxy S10e ship is with 8nm Exynos 9820 Octa-core SoC, but there is only one version, which has 6GB of RAM and 128GB storage. Internationally, there is also an option with 256GB of storage and 8GB of RAM.

Other specifications that are standard in all Galaxy S10 models include a hybrid dual-sim slot, Gigabit LTE and Dual 4G VoLTE support, Wi-Fi 802.11ax (Wi-Fi 6), Bluetooth 5, NFC, for four satellite navigation systems. Support is included. And USB Type-C

Galaxy S10e has AKG-tuned stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, IP68 certification for dust and water resistance, and a whole bunch of sensors.

Samsung's newest forest UI 1.1 is based on Android 9 pie. The security patches on our review unit were in February 2019.

We recently reviewed several Samsung phones with the Forest UI, so it was not late to get used to the interface.

There is a whole group of optional gestures and shortcuts, and App Age allows you to add shortcuts to one-time applications that are normally used, which can be accessed from home screen with simple swipe gestures.

You can get rid of the standard Android navigation buttons in favor of gestures, which are not bad. Google's Digital Velbying feature can help you keep track of your app's usage habits.

We have covered Galaxy S10 + software in its very review and gaming review in very detail and it is similar here, so look for those stories.

The Galaxy S10e is not free from spam notifications that disrupt your notification shade, but a way to reduce the interruption by setting a phone and using some of Samsung's stock apps and features to uncheck some 'Terms and Conditions' for Bixby is. first time.

In spite of all these precautions, even before opening it, we had indicated with the My Galaxy app. The number of notifications was not very big, but we wanted it to be a way to completely disable it.

Samsung Galaxy S10e performance, cameras and battery life

The Galaxy S10E is the ideal size for casual single-handed use. Reaching the information shadows is still slightly increased but not too much. Despite the compact body, you do not sacrifice either on the size of the display.

The hole-punch for the front camera is not distracting even after one day using this phone, and you can have some fun with a clever wallpaper designed to mask it. If you want you can mask the entire top of the display, but then you are lost at some point in the screen.

Fingerprint sensor works well, but since it is capacitive, there are limitations, such that it will not work if your fingers are wet or smooth. You do not have to press the power button because a simple touch is enough to unlock the phone, which is good.

Samsung has got rid of the iris scanner, which was due to lack of space in the hole-punch area in the previous Galaxy S flagship model.

Despite face recognition, it is not as good as the face ID of the apple because the phone depends only on selfie camera for authentication. It works well, and as soon as you lift your phone towards your face, it gets triggered.

In low light, the screen enhances the brightness to light your face briefly. However, when we used to wear sunglasses, then face recognition did not work for us.

Normal app and UI display is as spectacular as the other two Galaxy S10 models. Despite having less than 2GB of RAM compared to others, we did not see any major differences in benchmark numbers.

With regular use, we found that the edge of the phone quickly became hot, even when we were just downloading the app from the Play Store. This is not a consistent issue, and if you are using a case you probably will not notice it.

Games run very well, even high end ones like PUBG Mobile. Thanks to powerful SoC and lower screen resolutions, the Galaxy S10E has been able to easily drive them to the highest settings.

The framerates were smooth, and the game launcher of the Forest UI allows you to enable Dolby Atomos while playing a game, which gives you better local displacement of bullets and footprints.

AMOLED display content is great for viewing. When you zoom in, streaming apps such as Netflix and Prime Video will automatically align the video to avoid the hole-hole area, but if the camera cutout does not bother you.

You can use the app to display full-screen You can force them to go, which will fill the area around the selfie camera. The stereo speakers actually come very strongly, with good definition and stereo dissociation.

The Galaxy S10E has precise front and rear cameras similar to the other two Galaxy S10 models, the Galaxy S10 + to the Minus Telephoto sensor and the front RGB depth sensor. Unexpectedly, the display is also quite similar.

The phone captures detailed landscape and macros in daylight with good dynamic range and colors. The Visual Optimizer automatically identified objects like sneakers, T-shirts etc. and tried our best to increase our shots.

Macros were looking very detailed and the exposure was handled very well. Colors may look a bit awkward, especially for objects like flowers.

The camera app is easy to use and has a novice-friendly layout. The switch toggle between the regular and wide-angle sensor is within the reach of your thumb, and you can simply swipe through the view mode and swipe through the shooting mode.

There are lots of modes for both still and video, which we have covered in our Galaxy S 10+ review in detail. Wide-angle sensor is especially useful because you can capture more elements in one frame, though many times the barrel distortion looks a bit.

Live Focus works well with good edge. You can also add background blur effect. The 10-megapixel selfie camera is also a big improvement on the Galaxy Note 9 megapix 59,750 (review) and the Galaxy S9 series, because we've already highlighted in our recent camera comparisons.

Despite not having RGB depth sensors like the Galaxy S10 +, S10e does a great job with detecting edges in selfies. Some occasions were such when it was exempted or blurted those things which should not have been, but these are small problems which do not ruin our shots.

There has been no compromise for video recording on this Galaxy S10 series model. You can shoot up to 4K at 60fps with a more expensive model, and you get the same super slo-mo video mode so that you can shoot at 960fps.

The quality of the video is very good in daylight, especially the captured audio Stabilization is well controlled, and the colors appear porous.

Even in low light the noise is kept in control. There were good details and colors in our test clip, and only minor side effects of electronic stabilization were shown.

The Galaxy S10E has a 3100mAh battery, which is the smallest of the series, and has a noticeable effect in everyday use.

We usually manage to get the actual battery life of approximately 17 to 18 hours, which usually includes a bit of camera usage and video viewing, but most Internet surfing and chat apps

It is still good because you can get comfortably through a full working day, but it is not enough to go before the 24-hour mark.

The good news is that the battery is quickly charged with the bundle charger. With about 5 percent remaining, we were able to get 95 percent charge in an hour, which is impressive.

The phone also supports Fast Wireless Charging with a compatible wireless charger, as well as reverse wireless charging, so you can charge accessories such as Galaxy Bunds.

In our HD video battery loop test, the Galaxy S10e lasted for 10 hours and 31 minutes, which could be decent but better.

Verdict

The Galaxy S10e can not have all the frills of Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 +, but Rs. 55,900 It retains many features and style of the other two, which makes it very good value. In India, it is much better than the iPhone XR 999 67,999, not only in terms of features, but also cost.

At present, Galaxy S10e's closest competitor appears to be Google Pixel 3 to 58,999 (review), which is about Rs. Can get in. 58,000 online. If you want a good set of stock Android experience, compact form-factor and cameras, then the latter is still a good buy.

Let's not forget the OnePlus 6T Let's 37,999 (review), which has long been a favorite of enthusiasts. The top-end version of this phone is Rs. 45,999 in which you get 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage.

Plus, battery life should be even better than the Galaxy S10e. However, what you remember is HDR display, compact size, proper waterproofing and more modern SoC

After using the Galaxy S10e for a few days, we can see why this phone has received similar praise from the media and fans. You get most of the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10 + in a body that is very compact and manageable.

Life of the battery is not as good with other models, and you lose telephoto camera and in-display fingerprint sensor, so if these things matter, then it is understandable that for any of those two phones, additional The money is to be spent.

Overall, we think most people will be pleased with the features and performance of the Galaxy S10e, especially at this price.
